We’re happy to share a new video of the PRISM Quartet performing The Body of Your Dreams by Dutch composer JacobTV, called “the Andy Warhol of new music.” In The Body, Jacob satirically sets an infomercial for the Abtronic slimming belt (“It’s German-engineered…easy and effective. And no sweat!”). The work is part of Jacob’s so-called boombox repertoire, music “for live instruments with a grooving sound track based on speech melody.” Click HERE to read Jacob’s program note below to learn more about the piece.
The Body is part of Breath Beneath, a discovery project now available for touring in which PRISM explores the intersection of music, technology, and durational visual art. In September 2017, PRISM presented an entire program of works integrating video and music, including two newly commissioned pieces featuring real-time interactive systems: Cha by composer Julia Wolfe and filmmaker Bill Morrison, and Waveguide Model I by composer Dan Trueman and filmmaker Mark DeChiazza. Be sure to check them out too.
If you like The Body of Your Dreams, have a listen to Pitch Black, a complete album of Jacob’s music that PRISM recorded for innova back in 2008. And if you have a minute, subscribe to PRISM’s YouTube channel. We’re posting new videos all the time.
Tim, Zach, Taimur and I thank you for you interest in the Quartet! Keep in touch, and let us know what you think of The Body of Your Dreams. In the meantime, don’t forget to set the Abtronic microprocessor to 11 to take your workout to the next level!
